Catherine Weinfield-Zell came to illustration through an unusual channel. Starting with a few simple sketches, she kept on coming up with ideas to personify objects and place them into inter-personal situations, reacting to each other or themselves in ways that made not just the artist, but her friends and family, laugh out loud. After the results of the 2016 presidential election, she started to think that maybe the world needed a little more humor and joy in it every day, so "Catiche," a bespoke illustration studio, officially began. The name “Catiche” is taken from a minor character in Tolstoy’s “War and Peace,” which she was reading at the time. (Catiche is a Russian diminutive of Catherine).
In her real life, Weinfield-Zell is a freelance oboist in the Boston area and beyond. She is a proud vegetarian who has lived in such far away places as Honolulu, Miami, and Cleveland. She currently lives in Roslindale with her husband and their cat Igor "Iggy" Stravinsky.
